Help Nature
General  |  At Home with Nature

Nature, or “the natural environment,” is often confused with a place/space that is untouched, unscathed, undisturbed (etc.) by human beings.  This is, however, a myth!  To “help nature” you can take action in many ways!  

Searching “nature” at www.ted.com provides an excellent platform to think about the diverse ways people are looking at nature on the planet and the impact “helping nature” can have on the world: Ted Videos about “nature”

 1. Individual Actions  

·         Design a workshop. “Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future” is a multimedia education programme published by UNESCO.  Check out some samples of their workshops here.

·         Naturalize! - Naturalizing your local park or backyard can provide a multitude of benefits to you, your community and the environment.  Here is a guide to explain what it is, why it matters, and how to start your own project.  LandOwner Resource Centre’s “Extension Notes for Naturalizing

·         Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle at home.  What might that look like at home?  Check out this breakdown.

·         Did you know that 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity?  Here is a list of organizations around the global working to protect and advocate for nature: Get involved with the International Year of Biodiversity

·         Get information from the experts. Visit World Wildlife Fund's Conservation Action Network, where you can speak out for wildlife and wild places around the globe: WWF

·         Ontario Nature stays informed using these methods.  They also send out helpful “Action Alerts” via email to help inform you of resent conservation issues in Ontario.  Sign up here.
