We're
building a movement
A movement is as complex as
the millions of droplets in a cascading river, but it is
also simple in its direction and force.
Here's how we are helping
organize the movement in Ontario:
|

|
Everyone in!
The first step is to be a
leader -- at home, in your community, and at school and work There's room for everyone in
our movement.
our
top ten actions
covers all activities
we include a wide range of participants: |
|
|
 |
Organize ourselves
The second step is to
work together. Our movement may be complex, but with a few
good tools, we can connect and support a wide range of
interconnected actions.
Greening
Ontario: we're documenting Ontario's voluntary transition strategy
to show how organizations and networks are taking the lead in
helping Ontario become a conserver society.
our catalytic programs help create a stronger movement: |

Work
together
The real fun begins when we develop
common campaigns to market conservation solutions.
|
|
|
|

Embrace
complexity, promote simplicity
weconserve
is nothing more than a
catalyst for the force of change that is already
occurring. We don't own the movement, nor are we
leading it, we're just offering some resources to help
pool our efforts and create the maximum positive
benefits out of a growing and global social movement.
It's this simple... |
- Organize: map your
movement, identify leaders, and build
networks
- Mobilize: develop collaborative
campaigns to help people become better
conservers
- Have fun: above all, make
conservation easy and desirable
|
|
It's this radical.... |
- it assumes people want to change
- it assumes individuals can make a
difference
- it is a catalyst for positive social and
economic change
The development of a voluntary
transition model doesn't replace the need for a
strong, policy-oriented environmental movement,
but it does open up a vital new front in the
green movement.

This was
our original model for building a conservation movement.
Always interesting to compare the original vision with

The Toronto Star predicted
weconserve
will be the big environmental idea to shape the year. It's taking a little longer
than one year, but our ideas are definitely taking root.

This
is our answer to "The Death of Environmentalism".
We see the movement as being in
transition from advocating solutions to delivering solutions.
The policy role is still very much needed, but the "growth" in
the voluntary sector will be around delivering conservation
services.
We suggest areas for capacity
building as well as the key issues where a collaborative
approach will give us instant capacity to deliver conservation
solutions to the public and other audiences. --
