It's official!
Conservation is a deep
cultural value in
Ontario, and we believe
Ontario should be a
conserver society.
Let's face it.
We face some tough times ahead.
The global economy is sliding,
while at home the cost of living
is rising.
The good news is
that we believe that through
conservation, we can create a
more resilient local economy, we
can reduce the cost of living,
and we can live better in the
bargain! And the proof
lies in the fact that more
people are choosing a conserver
lifestyle!
Our
polling shows that:
|
-
conservation is
important to you
(87%)
-
you think
conservation is good
for the environment
(86%), the economy
and jobs (78%),
public health and
reduced health care
costs (69%) and
lowering the cost of
living (67%)
-
you practice
conservation
regularly (91%)
-
you want to see
government
leadership for a
healthy future. Only
12% want smaller
government, and only 14%
want lower taxes.

Ontario Needs State of the
Environment Reporting
Even
though conservation is on the
rise, the increase in our
population and consumption rates
means that we still face serious
problems:
- the decline
of ecosystems and endangered species,
- dwindling
natural resources (farmland, timber, energy,
and aggregates), and
- increased
waste and the pollution of our land, water,
and air.
Back in the
1990's, Ontario published a State of the
Environment report to pull the many sources of
data together into one report. But no
more. So here are some sources of data
that may prove helpful:
